Eye contact with Papa Roach : California based Papa Roach seemed to feel right at home at the 35°C Sziget temperatures and brought a lot of energy to the stage. In this panorama I caught a brief moment of - erm - "eye contact" with lead singer Jacoby Shaddix. Rock on!

Radio Barkas : After meeting with the Barkas boys in 2009, it is no surprise they were invited back for another round. Whereever their cut-up Barkas arrives, a party is sure to ensue. The vinyl sound soothes the ears of many an islander and lead to a great impromptu party under the trees at sunset.

Faithless : Sziget-veterans Faithless take the stage with an energetic show. Great music, lots of jumping, lots of ominous staring into the crowds. All in all a great show.

Esti Kornél crowd : You would be forgiven for thinking the festival has already started. But in fact, the festival does not start for another two days; this is "Day minus one". Even so, the island is already packed, and Esti Kornél attacted quite a crowd.

Gorillaz Sound System : Dear Gorillaz,
I understand you want to maintain a certain mystery around the persons behind your band. I respect your choice to hide bandmembers behind a seethrough screen, and to show a dvd of your 5 year old videos as your performance. But the next time you decide to screw with the photographers who get three songs to get some usable pictures of your performance by not giving them any light whatsoever, please considder your fans in the audience.
If you cut all the crowd-light in a packed, pitch black tent with a temperature of around 35 degrees, security won't be able to see your fans being trampled or overcome by heat. Have some responsibility. And while you are at it, put up a bit of a show. People pay money to come see you.

UB40 : As a succesful band, you can have the same people do tour after tour and eventually burn out. Or you can occasionally replace a bandmember and loose your original sound. UB40 is a smart band; they replace bandmembers with younger members of their families. The same sound, the same great vibe. Nice!

Cottas Club Jazz Band :

The Hives : The Hives are my new favorite band. They know how to make photographers happy, and they certainly know how to entertain the crowds at Sziget. Vocalist Pelle Almqvist was on fire, and pretty soon, so was the crowd. Awesome stuff.
